Have been busy with this thing called Life, mostly offline, posting a post per day. Finally time and inspiration to do some extensive SF surfing and then this bloody thunderstorm. Power was cut for about 10-12 minutes, now working again. Seems we are going to have this storm above us at least couple days more:

Anyway, after we got power back I sat down by computer and noticed the modem is dead. Thought first it's the router but it's still working, I have access to my local network (VDSL, rigs and other devices connected to router, router to modem, modem to the world).
It's absolutely, completely dead. It smells like it was burning, but I've not seen any smoke. No lights, no effing nothing Of course the normally quite fast mobile 3G connection, using Nokia phone as modem, sucks today. Getting 0.6 / 0.2 Mbps DL/UL, ping 228 ms!
What did people do before broadband connections?
