Those were my thoughts Carl, but then again if they do a lot of video editing or such I suppose they would needs lots of storage.

I would use USB drives for that kind of storage - portable and don't over tax the hardware.

Some kind of RAID array maybe?

What about good old fashioned VHDs? I've got tons of them .

Now off to fix Virtual Box, ever since I upgraded it refuses to open my CCTV XP VM .

That's got to be one of the longest abbreviations I've ever seen!

And hey, you do need real HDD space to store VHDs on.

May I remind you that dynamic VHDs take up about 27kb of space when empty? Even on my smallest flash drive I could store a few hundred .

But empty VHDs don't provide any storage. If you're actually going to USE them, they have to be stored on a physical drive that possesses the amount of space you need.
