A question to the parents of Seven Forums :)

Hey guys. I was wondering, how many of you guys have kids? If so, how many do you have and how old are they?

Oh, and how much allowance do you give them per month? My parents only give me like $150 a month and I can barely afford to do much =/. I am 16 btw.

I'm 16 so I can't drive. Living in Sweden, cost is high. For instance, if I wanna get a Big Mac Meal at McDonalds, its 8 USD. Then I always need to save for a new PC because I usually buy 1 PC a year. Then I need to buy clothes, etc. So not much money is left xD.

I have 2 children. My daughter will be 6 in December and my son just turned 3 in July.

$150 a month for allowance seems like a ton to me. When I was a kid (1970's-1980's), I got something like $15 a week.

My kids are too young yet for an actual allowance, but I did start a bank account for each of them at birth and I put $100 into each kids account on a monthly basis....thus they have a fair amount there. However, this money is intended for things like school trips, band camps, and other things that would normally have to come out of my pocket later in life.

According to google 150 USD = 1 106 Swedish Kronor. Is it really THAT expensive over there that you blow over a grand in a month?

Oh and to answer the question, I got £5 a week until I was 15, and was then told to get a job or be poor.

Well, to be honest when I was a teenager there was no way that I would have been getting 1 new PC a year. Heck, it would have been like a new gaming console every 2 years at best. Even as an adult in my mid 30's, I don't do a PC a year for myself.

When i was a kid, most of my spending money came from mowing lawns and shoveling snow in the winters. Or working an actual job and earning a paycheck.

All of my meals would have come from my family. My spending money was for movies, music, games, toy's, hobbies, etc.

After my kids reached their teen years, they had to earn their spending money. There were no allowances. I did furnish them with a vehicle (shared) and I paid the insurance, maintenance and fuel.
