Solved ASUS EEEPC 1005 startup repair loop-hardware issue?

OK, done, but the performance monitor utility failed. I am in safe mode, not sure if that matters.

Details
ASUS 1005PEB
Win 7 Starter OEM- just reinstalled from F9 factory restore
1 GB RAM (had 2GB in but switched back for testing)
1 year 3 months old, well used, but not abused

You guys rock, BTW, this is the only forum I'm getting help from, so thanks a million!!

Yeah, perfmon typically fails in safe mode. The information I use from that I can get from other files in that file you sent, so no big deal.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000000, EXCEPTION_DIVIDED_BY_ZERO

This was caused by the generic monitor.sys that Windows loads for your monitor, and it appears to be related to the brightness calculation causing a divide by zero fault. Unfortunately, I do not see any obvious reason for this to occur. Try uninstalling your monitor driver in safe mode. To do so, you will need to setup your computer to shut down manually:
1. Click Start Menu
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Click command prompt
5. Type in shutdown /r /t 300 (five minutes should be enough time to uninstall the monitor driver before the computer restarts) and hit enter

To uninstall the monitor:
1. Click Start Menu
2. Right click My Computer/Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
5. Click and expand Monitors
6. Right click your monitor
7. Click Uninstall
8. Click OK.

You may lose your monitor at this point, but it will restart on its own within five minutes, Windows will load, and the driver will be reloaded (hopefully correctly this time). Post back your results. :)

Alright, I found the solution:

Run an elevated command prompt:
1. Click Start Menu
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Right click Command Prompt
5. Click Run as administrator
6. Type into command prompt “set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1″ without quotes
7. Hit enter.
8. Type “devmgmt.msc” without quotes
9. Click View (at the top)
10. Check Show hidden devices

Now you can click to expand the Monitors and uninstall

Ok, I can still try this, but while I was in device manager, I uninstalled the display adapter. There were two listed. Windows restarted in normal mode, but the display is a generic driver with low resolution. Should I try to find a display driver and install it?

Also, some of the windows updates rolled back since they failed proper installation.

To get your display driver, you need to find your laptop model via the vendor site and download the display driver from them. I would also see if they have a monitor driver. Then install Windows updates again after getting the drivers.

Installed the correct driver, restarted, crashed. Attached the BSOD files again.

So it runs with a generic driver, crashes with the intel driver.

But, when I first reformatted, it ran with the intel driver at normal resolution. Strange, huh?

Im in devmngr, with "everything" shown now, but still no monitor?! Interestingly, "Security Processor Loader Driver" has a ! on it. Probably not related, though, huh? Just uninstalled graphics driver again. I'll try finding the driver buried in the restore partition, and see how it works.

Does the Monitors level show up in Device Manager in normal mode? Check it out if you can get back into normal operating mode and let me know.

Edit: It should be in the same place as in my picture

Did it. Restarted, message says, "Device driver was not successfully installed." -video controller, no driver found
ASUS restore is one big archive, so no go on using the original driver.

In device manager- Display adapter has the generic driver, but then below under Other devices it has Video controller- and that has a code 28

I did it for the monitor like you suggested. The display card driver was uninstalled after the most recent BSOD. I had to uninstall it to get back into normal windows, and therefore, to get to the normal device manager, where the monitor was displayed.

Super hybrid engine as I understand is like an over/underclocker for the atom cpu. Some forums had indicated that it caused problems with displays. As long as I've had this eee pc, if you plugged it in while it was on, the screen would get lines that made it unreadable. I updated to SHE software a late 2011 version, then reinstalled the Intel driver. So far, so good. Normal Boot!!!

Strangely though there is NO audio device detected, even as a hidden device. It had a little red X on the speaker icon, but I was worrying about one thing at a time.

Glad you remembered reading about that. That is definitely a plus.

Are there any buttons on the laptop itself for disabling audio? I know some laptops have such features for the audio, wireless, and even the mousepad. Could be related.

Just to be sure, I restored w/ F9 one more time, then IMMEDIATELY re-installed the updated Super Hybrid Engine 2.19, and all is well. Windows updates work fine now.

Thanks SO MUCH for all your help with this issue. My wife thanks you too, she really appreciates having her netbook back!

The audio still doesn't work, even after installing the ASUS/realtek driver. Device manager doesnt even show a sound device existing. I may need to make a new post for this.
