Hello, new to the forum.

I've been having increasing problems with my Asus g73jh. Love the performance, but been having random crashes concerning video i assumed. Updated the graphics drivers as well as ran a bios flash on the laptop. The unit always has a problem with being moved and I just moved it for the first time in around 6 months (been using it connected to my screen in living room) to bring to class and it crashed with a page fault error when I arrived at class, then again with another bsod when I got home and unpacked it.

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads DuplexSecure - FAQ

When finished you can use this Freeware:

MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM (MagicDisc) in its place

Using MagicISO to create ISO image files

THanks for the quick reply guys :)
I followed your instructions, had a little problem with the ASMMAP64.sys but found the update hidden in another update from asus. so far haven't had any BSOD yet or crashes, will attempt to replicate the problems tonight.

Update: Been running the computer with a game in fullscreen mode (spore) and a winamp in background. It worked perfectly untill last night when I alt tabbed out of the game and paused the movie. The system crashed with a high screaching in the speakers. I attempted multiple times to restart before bed then back at it this morning. Only after a restart in best previous known configuration could I get into startup repair which attempted to repair bad files, then i could get into safemode and after that I was able to get into normal mode. Before this every time I tried safemode it crashed as well as crashing every time it went into startup repair.

There are two more BSOD dumps that i'm uploading to you. Thank you for the help

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:

Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL

	bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff80003cde2a8, address which referenced memory

Are you using automated optimization utilities on your system? Glary Utilities - Free Utilities to Clean Registry, Fix PC Errors, Clean Privacy

Many of us on the forums actually do not recommend automated optimization tools for Windows 7. Windows 7 does a much better job of handling its own optimization than its predecessors did. We especially do not recommend registry cleaning as an "optimization" step because automated registry cleaning causes more harm to the registry than it actually repairs.

In the future, if you need help optimizing Windows 7, please post a thread in Performance & Maintenance - Windows 7 Forums or follow the tutorial enclosed in that forum to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ws-7-a.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance.

Hello, sorry for the delay in posting.
I found a utility program called Slimdrivers and updated my usb and intel drivers for the system. I tried to run the intel update utility you linked to me after the fact (I updated the drivers with slimdrivers before I received your post) and saw that there was only the realtek audio driver needed updating so I'm updating that now.
Since the updates no BSODs and it's rather stable at this point. Can you guys recommend stress test programs or something that I could use to test this out a bit more?
Thanks for your help again

I would also recommend checking your device manager for any devices that are not working well after using Slimdrivers. Automated driver update utilities are not recommended. They often find updates to drivers for different devices than are actually installed on the system being updated. This can cause conflicts and instability.

I have used them myself to test, and I found that they were reliable for most drivers, but caused havoc on a few.

Hardware checks:
  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

  • Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.

  • Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
    4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

You still have many of the same out of date drivers. Your crashes were all across the board, so I suspect hardware. Have you run through the hardware checks mentioned in my previous post (post #11)?

Hi guys,

Ran into some very serous problems, did two factory restores but managed to lose access to the original partition for the restore, so I did a fresh update with fresh drivers. Turns out the g73jh hates the ATI Drivers from their website so I'm sticking with the stock drivers. And since I did the fresh reinstall and updated drivers have had Zero problems. Will post back on separate thread if I run into anymore problems in the future
Thanks for the help
