    sfc/scannow destroyed my customisation

    Hi All
Over the past month i have gradually changed all my folders and system icons to a black design I found online. Its taken ages to do especially finding the start menu icon reg keys to alter the icons there.I thought my lappy felt a bit sluggish tonight so i ran the sfc/scannow tool which said it had found integrity violations and would repair on reboot.Ok i thought alls good with the world until i rebooted and to my horror all my customised icons and start orb had been removed and i was back to the origionals.I do have an image to resort back to but this now renders the sfc tool useless to me.Should this have happened even the start orb has been changed back to the windows one.If you customise your icons should you not use this tool or is there something more severe wrong.
    Any help appreciated
    Thankyou

System File Checker is supposed to fix your system files, such as explorer.exe

Just keep backups of both the original files and your modded files somewhere, so that when you SFC /scannow you don't have to re-do customization, you just have to copy in your modded files.

Coz Sfc \scannow command brings the system to its default position . You are to make the customizations once again

    Hi liquidsnack
Thanks for getting back to me
So it is normal for this to happen.
Not totally sure which files i would need to back up.Is it just the explorer.exe file. The orb changer makes a backup of this folder anyway and as this was the last thing i changed so if i swap that with the backup explorer.exe that created could i be back in business again without a re-image.
    Thankyou

Do you use Kishan's orb changer ? If so, just reapply your custom orb once again.

    Hi arc
It was win 7 start button changer.Gonna recover from an image it was only 2 days ago so no real bother.Would just be good to know which files to back up as per liquids advice. The only thing is if there is a problem inside the files i back up running the sfc tool will fix that but then i would just put it back again when i restore my custom files lol.Bit of a viscious circle that one.Can i just copy explorer.exe as a back up and replace if needed.
    Thankyou

edit-Sorry arc it is kishans orb changer lol

Usually customizations occur within explorer.exe, unless you are doing something other than the UI
