Remove gloss stripes, corner smoke from Aero?

No screenshot, but I trust you know what I mean. I hate the gloss stripes in Aero, they look awful against a dark background, and the white gradient in the top corners bugs me too. I'd like plain glass with Aero blur behind it.

Anybody know what file these images are embedded in? I've done lots of skinning on XP, but none on Vista/7... Will editing this mean I'll have to use a patched uxtheme.dll, or are these image resources stored someplace else entirely?

    Thanks!

There's a thread on Neowin about an app in dev called "Stylos". Sounds like it's what you need.

I do not have the link to it.

Here is something to look at. Don't know if it exactly solves your problem but it's a start

Hey Garbanzo, which resource's did you edit for the gloss stripes? It doesn't seem to be the obvious one. (900.png)

I want to try a slight mottled effect instead of the stripes to see how it looks. :)

EDIT: Soz for double-posting mods but it was to grab Garbanzo's attention!

hey Generator. here's the trick - the PNG isn't in the usual spot. look under Streams, there's a single image called Stream_971. it's mostly caption button stuff, but the whole right side is aero stripes. it's super easy to edit. i've even seen a VS for vista that replaced it with snowflakes :)

do you use ResHacker? if you look at Resource Tuner, it can show PNG images in the preview image. very nice for skinning and stuff. it's not free though (technically)...

post your mod when you've finished!

Thanks alot for replying, Ah.. no wonder I couldn't find it!

I'm using one called 'Restorator' because not many of the Res-Editors do x64, I will be doing a x86 version once I've completed the first one.
I think I should be able to use the same images as the x64, it'll be just the actual dll structure that's different hopefully.

I'll definitely post the end product and +1 and a VERY big thanks for your help.

EDIT: I cant give you rep at the moment because you were the last one I repped, I won't forget though!
