Windows 7: How to change boot animation in Windows 7

I was looking at newest bootmgr 6.2.8250 and managed to reassemble a modified version with digital signature checks deactivated. It was mostly the same as in previous versions, so not very hard. On the interesting stuff, there now exist functions to display bitmaps, which will be fun to experiment with.

@thaimin
Have you had a look at this?

So I did some debugging and managed to display a bitmap before the BCD menu is displayed on a non-uefi system. I am sure we can figure out something interesting from this...

Hint: Modify code in several places inside BmUdpateProgress and make an arbitrary call to it (look out for [boot]\boot\resources\bootres.dll).

@RBCC - What about the hashes in the filename itself? Everything in winsxs also has hashes in the folder/file name.

@Joakim - Great!

@kunal121 - This problem is still not resolved. It seems to only happen on non-English systems, but not even the majority of them. Please send me your winload.exe.mui (should be in \Windows\System32\LANG\ where LANG is your language code).

Some options:
  1. Copy the file to a flash stick and send it by mail the old fashion way.
  2. By e-mail (have a look at his site).
  3. Upload the file to one of the providers (example: mediafire), and send the link to him through personal message in this forum.
  4. Personal delivery (most trustworthy but costly).
Just to name a few..

I had a new look at the XpressHuffman compression in version 6.2.8250. It seems the same, ie broken decompression and always returning BAD_COMPRESSION_BUFFER. At least the compression part is working fine though. Would you mind sharing a working sample for decompression of XpressHuffman if you ever managed any success on it?

Yes - it works, and I wanted to publish it months ago! There were a few issues to resolve and I ran out of time. Things are calming down in my work, so hopefully soon it will be published. I will probably release it to GitHub when I get to it, and maybe even release it before I finish resolving the issues (the issues are mostly related to speed not accuracy).

Win 7 x64 Custom Boot Screen

I have been using Windows 7 Boot Updater to try and change my boot screen.
Assuming it would work out of the box, I spent a good 5 hours designing my boot.
However when applied my system just boots past OEM Bios logo, restarts, OEM Bios logo, restarts, over and over and I have to restore to a system restore point.
I have tried applying 5 or so times, taking ownership of required system files, rebooting, and system restoring.

Here are the files I have been using.
Download Edison's Ghost Boot.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

PLEASE HELP ME! I really spent alot of time making the custom animation and background and want to see this effort successful.
