Windows 7: How to change boot animation in Windows 7

28 Jan 2014   #911

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Bootmgr.efi has no function I know of.

On EFI systems, bootmgfw.efi is the boot manager... On new store-bought windows 8 systems, Secure Boot is enabled which disallows any change in bootmgfw.efi. Which then verifies winload.efi. Which verifies ntoskrnl.exe.... and so on.

Disabling secure boot allows you to mess with bootmgfw.efi, which at least allows an entry point to customizing it.

Ah, it's in bootres.dll. That's right, I remember doing all this a while ago, but I'd forgotten the DLL file it was in. I prefer doing this manually, so this was very helpful. Thank you so much.

Plus, i'd really like to customize my boot animation.

This is my favorite animation that I want to apply (and I want to remove the text displayed by winload.exe) Aperture Boot on Deviantart
And i've applied it to a VM running in non-efi mode on virtual box and I really love it. I cant wait to get this to work on my host OS in EFI mode!
Any progress on a Windows 7 boot updater version that support EFI?
I'd be willing to test if needed!

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

At the beginning you refer to just using a simple static image like in 5.x. I tried the 1st bitmap in ntoskrnl.exe and it did not work. Do I need to do something else?

Question for: Win7BootUpdater

I was wondering if there was a way to change the position of the animation location on the screen?
I was feeling a little nostalgic and wanted to make a Win95 boot screen for Win7, but the animation for Win95 is at the bottom of the screen not the centre. Any ideas? Thanks!
