How to avoid (too much horizontal) padding around icons in TaskBar?

In my taskbar I have meanwhile approx 30 pinned programs and their icon representation. I need two lines of the TaskBar.

This would not be necessary if the padding around the (big) icons would be much smaller.
No, I don't want to have smaller icons but just to shrink the padding around it (especially the horizontal). Is there a way to reduce this padding somehow?

In good ol' WinXP this was not the case.

In good ol' WinXP, it didn't have the ability to pin things to the taskbar. So of course it wasn't the case. But to answer your question. No. Either have less icons, use small icons, or get a bigger screen.

    Hi,

If it's no problem not to stick with the taskbar maybe another option is to use a dock.
I use Winstep Nexus, it's free and highly customizable.
You can change the size of icons and spacing and it will show their name on mouseover.
It has different themes, clock, weather, email checker, show your taskbar icons etc.
You can find it here: Winstep Nexus Dock and Nexus Ultimate - The Advanced Docking System for Windows
