what i'm hoping to accomplish

What i'm hoping to accomplish here.

In Windows XP, I had every single folder and document set to open in a specific space on my desktop, along with a specific size, and view settings.
Some folders set to icons, details or thumbnails, but most set to list.
At all times, resized and in a specific place.

Well i'm hoping to be able to accomplish that in Windows 7 as well.

Is that at all doable with Windows 7?

ShellFolderFix is a nice little program that will remember folder size and location, but not view settings or document sizes. Maybe not exactly what you want, but it's a start.

Hopefully all of these UI issues will get sorted in SP1.

oh geez, you edited out my question about the registry edit.

can a mod at least point me back to where I made that post originally so I can figure out where the registry post I responded to is?
I really wanted an answer to that.

This just came up on Giveaway of the Day: Mosaico. I've never used it but thought of you when I saw it this morning.

Mosaico is a virtual desktop manager that can help you save time and optimize your work at PC. Mosaico saves the position of the windows on your desktop so that you can restore them anytime later. Mosaico can also arrange windows so that they fill the whole screen surface, giving you more information at a time.
Be sure to read all of the comments in the link above. If you try it, I'd be interested in hearing your results.

BTW, for anyone reading this thread, that shellfix linked in the second post, works perfectly.

As noted in the thread it links to, it won't remember folder view.

But windows will remember one standard view, and so i've been opening everything up in "list view", and it's been staying that way.

There weren't "that" many folders that I did otherwise on XP, so this is just about as perfect of a fix as it could be.

Yeah the shellfix works as long as you manually adjust all of your windows and never snap them or it will break your profile and open everything half size in the middle of the screen. View settings are another that would be great to customize per folder.

I can't believe Microsoft gives up on the most basic necessities...
