How to get taskbar icons closer together ?
I'm using small icons but there is way too much space between them (see pic). Any idea's how to get them closer together (as in Vista & XP). Thanks.

Microsoft already changed it after testers feedback so that they are closer. Sadly, not close enough. I guess we have to wait and see if they decide to tighten them up even more.
You could use Quick Launch though of course you lose some functionality.
what is wrong with MSFT? who would want spacing that big? and if they're gonna make it so big by default, at least put an option somewhere to change the spacing size. duh.
Taskbar - Change Icon Button Width Size
hey, even if this might not be as helpful as promised i made a "discovery" on my own.
Just kidding but here it goes...
If u create a new Toolbar (disable "Lock the Taskbar") u can drag that to the left. by doing so you will decrease the amount of space the icons use.
so,
-right-click the taskbar, disable "Lock the Taskbar"
-right-click the taskbar once more and select "Toolbar>Links" (Links is a default Toolbar provided by 7)
-now drag the new Toolbar to the left to shrink ur "icons"
-right-click the "New Toolbar" at the Text and untick "Show Text & Show Title"
done. This is basicly just a workaround and everytime u want to pin new icons to the taskbar u will need to adjust the "new Toolbar"
If done that to show the effect:

you asked for it :)

v104hx... the problem is that you dont have text labels when firefox, XM and that third program is open. If you're like me, you want text labels, AND small icons. Is there any way to have both?
see this
Move items pinned on start menu closer together.
it might help.
although you might lose your labeling.
Then you could try this out

Mine are much closer than shown in your picture.
Are you putting all the icons in the SAME toolbar/folder?
It looks to me like you are just dragging icons onto the taskbar, which i think will auto create separators.
