Odd question - regarding the snap auto maximize feature

Hi everyone,

This is a strange question but after spending an hour trying to find an answer on the web, I figure I would try here. The snap feature that maximizes folders when you drag them off screen produces a really neat graphical effect that I would love to reproduce. The portion that is inside the black box (where the folder will be maximized to) has a transparent diagonal line effect that I would love to use for myself. An example is shown here http://www.home-pc-help.com/images/windows7desktop2.jpg. The random array of diagonal lines is what I am talking about.

Is there any way I can extract this from somewhere in the windows 7 files and apply it to my own background? Or maybe there is a place on the web where I can find something similar?

Thanks for reading!

1. Clear your desktop of pesky icons (you can bring them back later)

2. Set your image that you want the effect to be on as your background

3. Move a window to auto snap

4. Hit the handy little keyboard button that says prtscrn

5. Paste into image editing software and save.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've actually already tried that, but the problem is that the black box still remains and doesn't look very nice. I used paint to cut the image out of the black box but unfortunately now it is slightly distorted.

If you like, you can post the raw .jpeg and I can edit out the black box for you in Adobe P.S.

I appreciate the offer but I prefer tobe able to do it myself - I really like this particular graphical thing and knowing myself I'll be doing it in the future again. Maybe it's time to learn P.S. Can something like this be easily produced in P.S? Maybe the design is embedded somewhere in the windows directory that I can just extract and apply to another image in P.S. Thanks for you help

It's a possibility that it is somewhere in windows. Glad I could be of some service!

I've tried for the past 2 days to search for something relating to it - can any tech savy person give any insight as to where in the windows directory I might find the graphical reference files for this, and/or under what file extension it might be under?

It might be nestled in the explorer.exe program.

Windows usual 'snap to grid' feature is gone???
Hi, I'm hoping that somebody can tell me where snap-to-grid is gone to. I see it just fine on the desktop but if you delve into a directory there seems to be no way to turn off auto arrange/snap to grid. Therefore this is turning out to be a bit of a pain. If you want to copy a bunch of files...
