Windows 7: Taskbar Alligned Vertically Tweak?

I don't know of any workarounds or direct approaches, and there probably aren't any. Only thing I can suggest is what Hopalong suggested, having the taskbar (and start menu) on the sides. Unfortunately, the start orb would be found at the top, while the rest of the taskbar would be at the right or left hand side.

Out of curiousity, what made you want this. Was this some software made for xp, or did you use a different operating system before? Or did you just want it this way?

Well, just decided I wanted in vertical for no particular reason other than enjoying the extra horizontal space which is limited on this computer. And then for the start button, I want it moved to the bottom for 2 reasons: 1) More familiar and 2) When I click (or hit the WinKey) It covers up my pinned taskbar items.

Just inconvenient. And no, I've never really had it set the way i would like.

Although, check this out, it may interest you: [Manual Method] Get “Classic Start Menu” Back in Windows 7 Without Using 3rd Party Software - Tweaking with Vishal. It may do what you want in a different way, though you may or may not be disappointed. Glad I could help with what I could.

Don't hold me to this, I thought this was the website but now I can't find the original. This may or may not work. Let me look some more see where it went

*Edit* Nah, perhaps that is all I found.

Not what I'm looking for, but thanks for the link. It was an interesting read and it will help some of my friends who wanted the old style back.

I'll keep checking back to see if you have a lead on that site. Thanks for your help!

edit: Alright, thanks for everything. Hope your holidays are going well.

Sometimes I have a lot of stuff open, so here's how I have my taskbar in Windows 7. As you can see, the application buttons are laid out horizontally. I'd like to be able to arrange them so they're stacked vertically instead as I think I'd be able to get better grouping. Are there any...

Tweak for 'run as different user' option on taskbar shortcut
There is a registry hack available to stop you having to use the shift key when using the right click menu to run as a different user - see https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/155532-run-different-user-without-shift-right-click-context-menu.html This works fine if you are in Windows explorer but...

Rather than use a third party docking bar, I'm determined to use the new W7 taskbar. However, I've found changing the icons; pinning and unpinning programs, folders, and files; and positioning the icons on the taskbar to be hit or miss. I've found a simple but effective way to do all three using...
