    Taskbar Alligned Vertically Tweak?

I want the StartButton to be at the bottom of my taskbar when I have it placed vertically. I have it on the left side currently.

I've decided to this because with widescreen displays becoming prominent, we have unused horizontal space when doing common tasks such as internet browsing and word processing. (I'm on a laptop with a somewhat limited screen.)

I've searched all over the interwebz and I haven't seen anything.

I know they have this for multiple monitors, but don't know about a single one. You may have to research for yourself, but note that most programs charge, as does this one: MultiMon. I doubt it will do what you want it to, though.

Just use the internet full screen if feel you are wasting space. I buy bigger monitors so I don't get a cluttered feeling. If you want less wasted space, buy a smaller monitor. You cannot have the start button separate from the taskbar, they are connected.

I still would like quick access to my start bar and having it autohide just isn't working out well.

Just prefer the startmenu placed at the bottom... too bad.

quick access? the keyboad has a shortcut key to the start menu, you can type anything you wanted and it would appear instantly. What do you mean quick access? Microsoft has made it as quick access as they possibly can!

You can place the start menu (along with task bar) where ever you would like. you can have programs added in the quick launch fashion right off of the task bar. I have Internet explorer there and some other programs as well, Here are screen shots to show you what I mean:

    Trevor

I've looked also. Only thing I found has Start button on top when vertical. I looked thru all our tutorials and found how to make new ones.
    That was useful.

There may be a way but????

Quick access as in having info readily available. Like the time and my progress bars (I use the icon filling up for downloads and for WinAmp song progress) I really like it.

I also use BatteryBar, a really nice program that analyzes battery time left and semi-realtime mWh usage so I can monitor how fast my battery is draining.

I'd like to have these available for quick glances.

Didn't mean "quick access" but rather "quick access."

Then that would have to be an aspect of the software itself, right? like icons running in the notification area. Windows has gadgets that you can have anywhere you want, but you just have to find the right one

Still, that would be working around the problem rather than solving it.

What you're saying: I need a battery widget, a clock widget, and a Winamp Widget.

    That's not saving much space.

BatteryBar Pro is irreplaceable from what I can tell. This thing is incredible and it's allowed me to get rid of my 'power' built in windows icon.

Now I'm confused. I thought you wanted a solution to a problem, but it sounds like you have your solution in hand. This website has a few gadgets, could check em out: Windows 7 Gadgets - Top 15 Windows 7 Gadgets for System Monitoring
Though this gadget has a lot, perhaps much of what you want: Windows Live Gallery
You want to save space, I was thinking you wanted to fill up space when you mentioned the "unused horizontal space." I would rather use gadgets than any installed software packages as in my experience, those packages do more harm...

    Thats all I got

I know what I want but I'm not quite sure how to get it. Sorry for being indirect.

I guess if I wouldn't have typed all that extra info it would have made things less confusing, but in most cases, a number of forums want as much info as possible.

My specific problem (i'm going to try this time without adding extraneous details): I like having the taskbar. It's familiar and I'm not ready to jump into the realm of autohiding or getting rid of it completely. I would like to have full taskbar functionality on the left/right side while moving the start button to the bottom.

Not wanting workarounds, I want a direct solution. If none exists, I still appreciate your efforts.

    edit: more context
(now, don't read this until after you've given the above some thought, it might misdirect your train of thought or something. I'm using a fairly small laptop.)
