If you have a mouse with a middle scroll wheel you can highlight the icons, hold down control, and scroll down.
If not, then you can right click on the desktop > go to view > and select icon size
Right-click your Desktop to open Personalize. Select: Window Color and Appearance, and click on the Advanced button. In the Item drop-down menu, there are several Icon options that might affect the size of the Desktop icons. Try experimenting with all of the settings for: Icon, Icon Spacing Horizontal and Icon Spacing Vertical.
Like Ie9 said: Click on the Desktop and scroll your mouse wheel while pressing the CTRL-key that gives you all possible icon sizes.

Assuming we're in the 21st century now and a computer without a mouse is more likely something like a Cray or at least an AS-400 and doesn't have icons to worry about.
Cool down, Buddy I didn't say your solution was wrong...The Mouse wheel method is just simpler than digging through advanced options

I appreciate that SledgeDog, and it's not about "right" or "wrong" -- it's just that many people prefer a smaller mouse with no wheel, and in addition to that, most laptops have a built in touchpad/mouse --- so there's no stand alone mouse or wheel at all. So a solution that excludes the possibility of any of those, doesn't really do the OP justice.
You guys are fighting over a red herring. Btw: I never use a mouse - just a keyboard with a scrollball, hate mices. But the keyboard has a wheel too.
lol
Well i do have a mouse with wheel and that method works very good :)
