    Taskbar - open programs on the right


    Is there any way I can have my pinned programs on the taskbar separated from the programs that are running? I saw on my friends computer that all the programs he had open were on the right. The icons to start the programs were still on the left. So, when I click on, say, Chrome, the pinned taskbar icon remains unchanged. Instead, a new instance is opened on the far right. When several programs are opened, they are all grouped together. Unlocking the taskbar allows you to drag the barrier between the "opened" and the "available" sections.

    I hope I'm making sense. I don't have a screenshot to show what I mean. Thanks all

    Ok, I'm not entirely sure and if I don't help then feel free to disregard but here's the approach I would take. First enable quick launch to lauch your programs from: Quick Launch - Enable or Disable

    Next get rid of all of your icons from where they are pinned on your taskbar (once they are transfered to your quicklaunch)

    Well Mr. ie9! That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

    I'm not complete convinced it's a better system (QuickLaunch) than the standard task bar but I'm going to try it. It seems funny that I have never heard of it even though I've read many forums and "Top things to know about Windows 7" lists. I don't understand why functionality like this is introduced in software without providing quick and easy ways to use it. Anyway, thanks again.

    Glad to hear that you were able to accomplish what you set out to do.

    The quicklaunch was actually a feature in Windows XP and Vista that Microsoft wanted to replace with the 'superbar', but unfortunately I don't know of any other way to accomplish the desired effect you were looking for without the quicklaunch.

    Anyways glad to see it worked! :)

    Haha. I just dawned on me (and my slow brain - be it the grey or the white stuff) than the quicklaunch tool bar is exactly the same as from Win XP! It seems different considering the other changes in the task bar. It seems a little like the Mac interface. But, it's like the same and stuff. Silly me.

    As an alternative, you can use the toolbar(s). I find that a lot more practical than Quick Launch because you can have subfolders: Toolbars - How to Use in Windows 7 and Vista

Taskbar Icons For Open Programs ?

Hi, Can anyone please assist with some annoying behaviour displayed by my taskbar icons for open programs? Basically, if I have two or more excel workbooks open and visible in the bottom left side of the taskbar as icons, when I hover the mouse over one of them it causes all of the excel...
I saw if some folks screen shots, that there must be a way to cause the open programs on the task bar to display wide.. Referring to sergio's theme, and a few others.. I have dug into the taskbar options, but not struck gold, anyone know how this can be done?
