    Font Removal (the right way)

    Hi everyone,
I have a question about removing fonts. As I installed apps on my Windows 7 laptop, I quickly accumulated a lot of fonts that I didn't want. Having heard that the number of fonts you have can slow down startup times, I tried to delete some.

I couldn't delete any. The system said it was in use, even when I started in safe mode and tried to delete through there. So--I went on this forum, and found a way to delete fonts through the registry values. Fine and dandy. I deleted the couple hundred I wanted to, and forgot about it.

Only, my computer hasn't been starting up any faster. So I started wondering--if I remove a registry value, that doesn't change the actual 'Fonts' folder. Therefore, I would have tons of fonts listed in that folder that aren't in the registry and are thus 'not' in the folder, even though they are. Which makes me wonder if Windows is still loading these phantom fonts.

If Windows isn't loading them, great, I'll just continue to use the registry to delete fonts. But if it is loading those fonts I don't need/use every time I boot up then I need a better way to delete fonts. Any suggestions?

    Removing Fonts Efficiently

If you install Office, CS etc. you will have a lot of fonts installed, some in C:\Windows\Fonts
Folder but also in other locations.
Normally I uninstall them the simple way:
Delete Fonts from their original location (or move them to a save place)
After doing that, start CCleaner, run Registry Repair: It removes all the Registry Fonts entries where no physical font is in place.

I tried that tutorial, Golden. That's what I was saying wasn't working. The registry part worked, but I was still wondering if Windows loaded those font files, because, obviously, deleting registry keys doesn't do anything to the actual files.

    Thanks!
