    Different colors for files

    Hello

Despite the fact that I am a loyal user of Windows (7 at the moment ofc), there is one thing that sometimes makes me wish I was using a mac : the possibility to give many different colors to the files, according to their importance, their type, etc... And as I am about to start editing videos using hundreds of files that I need to differentiate, being able to allocate different colors to these files may be a great help.
Does anyone know if anything has been created yet to make this possible on Windows 7?

    Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forums :)

You cannot do this natively in Windows 7 but i've just found a program that may help. It colour codes folders and is the closest thing to what you need but you may need to start using folder rather than files. I'll kee looking...

Change folder icon or color to make a search for important information a "one-glance" affair!

    Hello Corquito Welcome aboard .

In fact, the windows 7 file icons are per class, and that's why you cannot change a single file icon . The same thing is also true for folder icons, unless you have disabled thumbnail preview .

Folder Image Cover may be a nice workout that may fulfill your needs, but it contains a lot of extra works .

Indeed colour codes for folders can be part of the solution, even though it is not perfect since I would need that color scheme inside the folders, for it to be perfect... But I guess that is already an improvement.

The Folder Image Cover could be pretty good as well, indeed that looks like it will take some time to put images on each file but I guess that just like everything, at some point this becomes a quick reflex... I will try that when I have some time

Thanks very much to both of you

It definitely a great feature borrowed from Mac.

Once there is a program called "Xentient label" (shareware) which can be used in Windows XP. (I've used it for few years ago.)
    However, the development seems terminated.
And I've tried to install it on Windows 7 but it doesn't work. Also tried the compatibility mode and the result is the same.
