Without tools, you cannot configure anything. If you don't have the experience to find something, good luck. it might as well be gone.

allow me to disagree about a wide user base using an option not being right. There are sometimes several ways to do things in Windows. I do what’s comfortable to me. Someone else might do it another way. That doesn’t make their way wrong, or my way better. If a wide user base is doing something a certain way; who am I to take that option away because I feel there is a better (or more correct) way. Are these really upgrades??... or just forcing user patterns. Comfort is good. You shouldn’t have to use an OS that gets more alien every three years. Yes… I agree there is a limit; I don’t want everyone to go back to the command prompt, but “Power to the people!" (By the way…. What ever did happen to debug. Does anyone know?)

I also agree, that MS deletes or hides some very good things with each revision, going all the way back to DOS. As things hide, or go away, my list of third party software gets bigger. I too would like an OS that relied on less 3rd party apps. I’m not suggesting throw in the kitchen sink, but having back some of the wonderful tools MS took away would be nice.

(I think I can get used to bread crumbs.... I know some people don't like it, but the more I play with it, the more I like it. it just took getting used to. Yes Virginia, sometimes there is a better way.
It looks like my user pattern is being forced! AAAAAAA!!! hehehe)

one of the points that i am getting at. it is not alway about a easier way of doing something, rather being use to something. and yes microsoft seems to be pushing us to do things only their way. plus alot of charges are simply made so it looks like they did more than they really did.

The icon did disappear without a reboot, but it took a while.

This section is about customization. A user has posed a valid concern. I found a method to address the concern. There are those among us who use this forum for a reason other than an opportunity to act like a dolt.

i simply put you in the same category i would put tepid in. this thread is about what is missing not customization, read the first post. again why change a setting that has no need to be changed? like i told tepid personal comments do not belong here.

It is readily evident that you do things simply. Your inability to comprehend the English language in written form belies any grasp you may have on the subject matter at hand. If I meant "thread", I would not have used the word "section".

You may be trapped in your distaste for the evolution of the operating system. It is possible that you cannot learn or advance your skillset. I cannot fault you for your limitations. But your behavior and tone are a choice and are also quite doltish. I have stated that you make ill-informed and inane comments. This is not a personal comment, it is an evaluation.

I have provided at least one solution to a perceived problem in this thread. You have provided nothing more than a picture of your limited familiarity with Windows 7 and poor understanding of the licensing agreement.

fseal: Thank you for your reply. No... I can see the Icons, I would like to change the new default folder view back to something that resembles XP.

What I would like to see, is ONE thumb clearly visible displayed on a folder which preferably closed or flat like in XP. I put my music album covers on the folders by creating a folder.jpg file, which displayed the cover prominently. The new folder view is an open folder which occludes the album cover, and has extra pages displayed with it that I don't want to see. It's really a small thing, but I (And others) like the old view better, because it lets the album cover stand out and not the folder.

The only workaround I can see so far, is creating a .ico file for each album, and changing the folder Icon, or use a file manager. I went through a lot of work with the folder.jpg files. I don't want to go back and redo everything for hundreds of folders because the OS changed. That would be a disappointment; not to mention a lot of work. If the menus in the customize tab are to be believed, there should be a way to do this. Nothing I do however will change the default view.

Every CD I own is backed up so I can stream the music to the living room. (I have a wall full of CDs I have collected over the years.) The upnp interface that I use has a drag and drop playlist. Since I would have to find a song, and drop it into the playlist of an integrated player anyway, this has never been a problem for me, and the upnp that I use does not have a heavy footprint on my system recources. Windows Media player in the past had not handled large libraries very well, and has/had a tendency to bog, freeze, crash, or just not pick up the entire library. I have to admit, I've gotten used to my method, and have not tried Media Player lately. (I'm not a fan of sPytunes) I'll have to give it a shot. (TMI?)

I still would like my library to display the way I want it to though, if anyone has any Ideas. (Besides a file manager.... Which I just may have to go to. sigh... another third party app to fix something I already had.)

I have spent about two hours looking for a solution for your folder display issue. I will continue to investigate until it is resolved or determined to be unresolvable through the Windows 7 shell. ImageRes.dll is causing ResHacker to error out when I examine this particular resource.

I'm going to wait until I can get the official, final, RTM straight from M$, in a week or two.
Then, I'll take a look and see how crippled it is.

you have provided me and others with a way to remove the sound icon, and i thank you for that, however the point is clear that there was no legitimate reason to change how to disable this. as for the flag again you can not get rid of it by dragging it all the way to the right. as for what you meant like it or not the topic at hand is in a single thread and that topic is about what was removed from the os not customization. the overall section is about customization, however we are in a single thread of that section. next i am all for adding new features and finding new ways to do things, however like one poster stated just because you do things one way does not mean everyone does it that way. rather you like it or not we have been slowly being corralled by microsoft since xp into doing thing only the way microsoft wants them done. as for my understanding of the english language there is no problem and never has been. as far as understanding the eula there is no problem there either. the eula clearly states that the copy of windows you are running is owned by microsoft. it also states that you cannot customize it. it is not that i do not understand the eula, rather i do not believe in certain parts of it. again i paid for my version of windows therefore i own that copy not microsoft. since i own that copy i will tweak it however i see fit to meet my needs for an os as long as i am not repackaging it with my tweaks for resale.
