Icons - Few Questions.

Greetings again,

I'd like to ask about some additional things.

1) Replacing .psd, .zip & .rar Icons.

I'd like to know, how this can be done.

2) Taskbar Icons.

When replacing some shortcut icons, it changes of course, when I run the program, let's say Windows Live Messenger or IE9, it has still the same icon on that bar, any idea why or how this can be modified?

Thank you.

Best Regards,
SS-Totenkopf

Hello Totenkopf,

This can show you how to change the default icon used for a file extension.
File Extension Icon - Change Default Icon
On pinned taskbar icons, you could right click on the icon, then right click on the program in the icon's jump list, and click on Properties to change the icon for it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thank you. Haven't tried to mess with the extensions yet, however the taskbar seems to be bugged a little bit or simply some executables won't let that happen.

For instance BS Player. I have its shortcut in a folder, I changed the icon of that shortcut, it's fine, folder options are set to display 'Large Icons', so it looks more attractive, however, when I launch the application (BS Player in this case), the taskbar icon appears where it should, however, it's the default one.

Another example is Google Chrome. I changed the shortcut icon, I launch the browser and it appears on the taskbar and the icon is the very same as the one used on its shortcut. Same with Xfire, Firefox, Torrent, etc.

However some software seems to ignore this icon change. It's mainly IE9, MSN, BS Player and some others. No need to list 'em all. This was just for an example.

I also tried to pin BS Player and did what you suggested, however with no result.

I guess the only way is to edit the .exe and place those icons in it?

Thanks for clearing this out.

Best Regards,

Try unpinning the icon that you currently have, create a new shortcut for the program, change it's icon to what you like, then pin the new shortcut to the taskbar to see if that may work better instead.
