Is there a way to disable the pop up that comes up...

Is there a way to disable the pop up that comes up after I terminate a process with task manager... the one that says windows is searching for a solution... I find this very annoying as I it has never found a solution and I don't need it when I just want to end a program that is not responding... ?

are you terminating the process or the task? (applications tab or processes tab)

Right, if you're killing it via applications, it interprets that as you constantly clicking on the close button, so the program freezes, giving the "it's taking time to respond" message. To kill the program instantly, you could right click on the selected program in the application tab and select "go to process" (this saves having to scroll through the list and finding the right one, as sometimes they have completely unrelated process names to the programs). Then click 'end task'. It will pop up a small warning box as it's a bit afraid it might be something critical, but if it's the program you want to kill then it should be fine and I think you'll agree that despite that dialog box, it's still faster than the application closer
However, if windows explorer/my computer/my documents etc. freezes, the process it will take you to is explorer.exe. This process is powering everything windows; desktop, start menu, task bar etc. Of course, you can kill this if it hasn't responded for ages, but it will also close every other explorer related window you have open. explorer.exe should restart automatically after a bit, but you can restart it manually (and sooner) in task manager by clicking on the first window bar tab (I think it's 'file') and then 'new task'. Type 'explorer.exe' (without the quotes) and hit enter. It will now start explorer.exe again.

Gadgets, to disable or not to disable?
