Can't get the tray icons to change

I have been trying to get the sound tray icons on my computer to change
I tried using windows 7 tray icon changer
I tried by using resource hacker to change the system files
    None of these worked
And I did modify the one in syswow64 and system32
    Here are the modified files
    modified system files.zip

Which file are you using to change the sound icons? I was looking for some icons in .dll's the other day and noticed some sound icons for the systray in an oddly named .dll with system32. I don't recall which one it was at the moment though.

I had problems with Resource Hacker, therefore I've tried Resource Tuner.

Resource Tuner isn't free, but you can use TRIAL version to fulfill your needs.

Personally, I was unable to change Google Chrome icons using Process Hacker, because after changing icons, Google Chrome simply wouldn't start.

Resource Tuner allowed me to change Google Chrome icons successfully in a very convenient way.

Resource Tuner even has a tutorial on how to change icons:

How to Replace Icon in EXE File, Change Default Menu Icons, .ICO Changer Icon of Program

In order to create various sizes of icons, I've used trial version of IcoFX.
