Annoying little text...

So I customized my own login screen, and everything's great.. But I noticed a teeny-tiny flaw. As seen on my attachment, I have that annoying little "locked" everytime I go to the login screen, and it really messes up my minimalistic style.

I've tried tons of things, and even asked help from random forums, but noone could help :S

So if anyone can tell me how to get rid of that ( compeletely, OR just make it transparent or something.. ) I would be very thankful.

Also I would prefer to use ResHacker, if possible. I don't feel comfortable with registry edits.. yeah.. that's about it. Thanks.

Also, sorry for my bad english :P

Using info from this article,
I think that you might get that by changing
Code:
<element id="atom(LockedMessage)" />
<element id="atom(LockedSubMessage)" />
to something like this
Code:
<element id="atom(LockedMessage)" layoutpos=”none”/>
<element id="atom(LockedSubMessage)" layoutpos=”none”/>
I have not tried that myself. Please backup before changing anything.
If worked,please let us know.

I had tried that before, and now I tried it again. It doesn't work.

Any other suggestions?

You can try to go another root - change MUI files.

In case of US english
%windir%\system32\en-us\authui.dll.mui

Resource number 13019. Put like a dot there or & or something.

I don't think I have that file... I ran a custom scan on my whole pc, and it returned nothing. Also, how would I open it? Just with reshacker?

Thanks.

Every Win7 edition got to have it.

This file should be in the folder C:\Windows\system32\LANGUAGE_OF_YOU_SYSTEM
Instead LANGUAGE_OF_YOU_SYSTEM could be:
en-us for USA English
zh-cn for Simplified Chinese
es-es for Spanish in Spain
or your language.

It is easy to find that file:
navigate to C:\Windows\system32\
then press F3 and type authui.dll

Second result should the one you need.
Yep, use Resource hacker.Check screenshots.

I have tried changing the text for the login screen by editing the authui.dll.mui file but it isn't making any difference at all on mine. It still displays the old text. Can anyone help me?

Please describe step-by-step as detailed as possible what are you doing exactly.
May be you are missing something.
Probably even post that file here.

I did exectly what it said in post #6 and restarted Windows after editing the file. It seems mine doesn't use authui.dll.mui at all. I have even tried moving the file and still makes no difference. Where else could the login screen text be stored?

That's the only file.
However, there could be several copies of it.
I had two.

One in C:\Windows\system32\en-US
and another in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-a..on-authui.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_en-us_8b52ed91fe5d105f

So, turn hidden files and folders option on as well as show system folders and search for other copies of authui.dll.mui in your windows folder.

Slightly different question, please see my Orb Menu below.

By going through gpedit.msc & enabling 'Remove Lock Computer', 'Remove Task Manager' & 'Remove Logoff'; these are taken off the Ctrl+Alt+Del menu.

Problem is off my Orb Menu; the selection 'Lock' does not work anymore, 'Log off' still works fine & if I enable 'Hide entry points for Fast User Switching' (Local Computer Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>System>Logon), Switch User gets grayed out. Also, if 'Remove Task Manager' is enabled, I can't get into it at all - no Ctrl+Shift+Esc/even going directly to C:\Windows\System32\Taskmgr.exe.

Is there a way to take these options off the Ctrl+Alt+Del menu ONLY w/o disabling the others?
