    Custom Screen Savers

    Hi,

First post on this forum sorry if it is in the wrong area but not exactly sure where to post it. I downloaded the 'Xara 3D' program

I have designed a Screensaver, which has all gone well and works fine on my laptop screen but I have duplicate monitors and the screensaver does not come up on these in the same way a 'pre-installed' one would. I am running Windows 7 ultimate.

I have done a local search for *.scr and found that the pre-installed ones are duplicated in different files / folders, for example the 'Bubbles' screen saver is in the following folders / files

    1.
    System32

    2.
    SysWOW64

    3.
    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-bubbles_31bf3856ad364e35_
    6.1.7600.16385_none_ca7337e2e3a2a824

    4.
    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-bubbles_31bf3856ad364e35_
    6.1.7601.17514_none_cca44baae0912bbe

    5.
    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-bubbles_31bf3856ad364e35_
    6.1.7600.16385_none_6e549c5f2b4536ee

    6.
    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-bubbles_31bf3856ad364e35_
    6.1.7601.17514_none_7085b0272833ba88

Also when doing the search '*.scr' the file for the screensaver I created only shows up on the desktop and not in any of the syatem files even though if I go to personalise and look in the screen saver window it is there.

When I created the screensaver in Xara - I exported it to my desktop. Its properties say it is a .scr file (9mb) I right click on it and click install but apart from the desktop file it does not appear to be any where else on my system?

I tried to copy and paste it to the System32 folder but when in that folder it would not allow me to paste anything (Paste is greyed out) I am an administrator on the laptop.

One line of thought I had to get it to work on multiple monitors was to replace the 'Bubbles.scr' file in all the folders shown above with my file 'OSS.scr.' but again as I can't paste into them I can't test this to see if it would work?

Im confused !! and would really welcome any advice someone can offer me as its bugging the hell out of me now !! even though its not actually that important i am becoming obessesed in getting to the bottom of the issue !

    Many thanks - Paul

Leave the Files located in - 2,3,4,5,6

System32 is a Core Windows Folder and to be able to Change any files manually you will need to be a Builtin Administrator

Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

When you mean "not the same as the pre installed one" try and be more specific -In what way? Screen resolution?

Hi Josh - thanks so much for the reply - what I mean by not the same as pre-installed one is that when a windows screen saver for example 'Bubbles' comes on it will cover all the monitors ( I have 3 including my primary) with the custom Xara 3d screen saver it will only show on the Primary monitor - the other two are blank - does that make sense?

(I have changed the built in account as per your link - thanks for that information !)

Do you have a link to this software? Also how is it composing this Screensaver? is it just producing a .scr File?

Hi Josh link as requested to the software

Create 3D Graphics with Xara 3D Maker 7

As to composing the screen saver - i'm not entirley sure I understand what you mean ? basically I designed the Screeen Saver and then from the software's file options selected export. I sent the file to my desktop. On checking the exported file properties it states the type of file is 'Screen saver (.scr)' If I right click on the file it gives the option to Test -Configure - Install.

    1. Test - screen saver comes up on the screen and works ok
    2. Configure - Just shows a pop up 'Screen saver created with Xara3D'
    3. Install - not exatcly sure what this option does completly but the screen saver does appear in the list of screen savers settings window but as said before the file does not show up anywhere else on my system by searching for *.scr aprt from the original file on the desktop although the screen save does come on after the set waiting period but only on my primary screen.

    thanks for your help
