I think you've got telepathic powers, Jaidyn - I was just asking myself the same thing about that guy in Archie's sig ;-D
Thanks for the tips Gary, I'll change the pauses later. Have you waited for the page to fully load? The image goes much faster then :) Or do you think it's still too slow?

Thanks guys - really appreciate the support :)
Glad you like it Athene :) I should have it all finished by the end of today. I've finally managed to get a video layer in photoshop so there's nothing stopping me now
Really nice sigs Athene! They look incredible in yellow Great job as usual!
Athene, that is a carbon fiber texture ... Carbon Fiber Patterns - Free Photoshop Brushes at Brusheezy! . I have sharpen and resized it using the blending options of photoshop.
Jaidyn, the character is Snow Villiers from final fantasy 13 :) He is there in a few of my sigs !
Tom, I dont know what I should say .... it is beyond my capacity to express the design you have designed for Athene . Hats off to you
Yes Tom I think the animation could be 2X what it is, longer end pause and the text moved left a bit. But, hey, I can't even make animigifs.
Tom, do not stay up late and slog away at the sig hour after hour, otherwise I'm going to have one very bad conscience
In the meantime, I can say the following about the graphics editing/manipulating programs I've tried out so far:
-I find Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 really difficult to handle. Applying one's own gradient is complicated, and there does not seem to be a ctrl+click command to simply load a layer object or shape like in Adobe Photoshop (corresponds to right-clicking on a layer and choosing "Alpha to Selection" in GIMP).
-GIMP is brilliant once one is used to the user interface. Some filters still need a bit of sophistication, though (Pagecurl, for instance), and there do not seem to be many preset shapes or bevels.
-Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 (10 was just released, by the way) is my favourite besides GIMP.
So using the combination of PSE9 and GIMP, I'm perfectly happy
