    Is Aero Enabler Safe?

All right, my new Windows 7 Home Basic (not Premium) has Aero disabled, and I can install the free "Aero Enabler." I installed a theme enabler with no problems.

Has anyone here tried Aero Enabler. and did it work?

Wel, nobody answered, so I finally installed Aero Enabler. Although my rig meets all the requirements, it kept insisting that I am not the administrator. I finally deleted it.

My own experience, having a laptop that will not run Aero, is that with Win7, you either have Aero or you don't.

If you don't have it, while hacking around MAY work, most likely, it will not.

If you want to enhance your desktop and can't run Aero, there are a number of Windows Basic themes you can install.

Also, there is a commercial product, known as WindowBlinds, that will also enhance your desktop experience. I used an older version of this on my laptop and it didn't work well. But, I'm running the newest version and it works fine.

Mark, I'll take a look at Windowblinds. I downloaded an Aero program for XP and installed it on 7, but nothing happened. No harm done, so I just deleted it.

    .
Agree. Have experimented with the enabler with no joy. In other words, it didn't work for me on various systems that it was tried on.

Some of the download sites said that it would only work on Starter editions of Vista and 7, and I have Home Basic. Other sites said that it would work on Basic as well. For me, it didn't.
