Stocks For Windows 7 (by Microsoft) - Where can I find it?

I really couldn't care less about MS dumping gadgets since 99% of them were useless, but this is one of the few gadgets that were actually useful. It seems to be impossible to find, which is strange because it's made by MS and it's a really useful gadget. I do have one installed on another computer but don't know if/how it would be possible to transfer it to my new laptop. Does anyone know where I could find this or how I'd be able to transfer it onto my new laptop from my other computer?

Hello COOLAS1CE and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's my understanding that Microsoft (in all of its wisdom) discontinued that widget /gadget when it released Windows 7 back in 2009.

Stocks gadget gone in Windows 7 RTM

You may be able to use this download from Softpedia. Please note that supported operating systems do NOT include Windows 7. You might have to install it in Compatibility Mode to get it to work (but no guarantees.)

If you have it on another computer you can certainly transfer it to another one.
It will be located in one of three areas
    C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets
AppData is a hidden folder followed this tutorial to see it Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide
    they also may be in
    C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets
Just copy the gadget folder you want to the same place in the other computer.

To Jerry (or whom ever can help me)

I successfully copied the Stocks.Gadget folder over to my Windows 7 Ult pc and now I get "service not available" for that stock gadget in the Sidebar. However I took the Stocks.Gadget folder from a Vista Ult pc and copied it to a Windows 7 sidebar folder in Program Files. Does the source have to be windows 7 as well and if so, can you please email me the files for that particular gadget (as a favor). Again, it's the Stocks.Gadget folder and I have tried like hell to find out why it won't work on my Windows 7 pc but can't seem to figure it out. - Steve

What works now is to install the latest version 12 or higher of 8GadgetPack - Gadgets for Windows 8 / 8.1
