    W7 Starter desktop images.

I have this Acer Aspire 1 that had serious infections in it.
Those are cleared out, but now the only desktop image
I have is of the blue Windows 7 image. There is
no personalization and it's my understanding that
W7 Starter doesn't have this, so ok..

I DID download Oceanis and it installed fine and
shows pics, but I cannot set any to be the
desktop image. Can anyone please enlighten
me as to how I can get this to work ?

Thank in advance for any clues or advice.

    Hello n2gc,

This may be able to help with Oceanis in OPTION ONE below. If not, then you might see if using the program in OPTION TWO instead may work better for you.

    Hope this helps,

Opps..So sorry for posting in the wrong subforum. Thanks for the link.

It's very strange. As soon as I use Oceanis and select
the image and apply, Windows automatically sets the
desktop image right back to it's 4 window panel default
    image.

Well I've tried both zips. Next try is the reg fix, but I don't see
any wallpaper dword in the strings, so I don't know.

Alright, so I have the string pulled up in regedit and I'm seeing two wallpaper keys. One states WallpaperOld with this "%windir%\web\wallpaper\img0.jpg.

The other is this. Wallpaper "%SystemRoot%\web\wallpaper\Windows\img0.jpg.

I'm thinking the second one is not letting use pics or other images for the desktop. Am I right ? and how do I change it so I can use other images for the desktop.

When I DO try to set a image as a desktop, it automatically goes back to the
Windows image which is light blue with the 4 pane window.

Please enlighten, as I'm hardly experienced doing this with Reg keys, etc..

Thanks for any info. I did load both the programs as suggested, but still come
    back to the Windows image.

I also notice when I use the Personalization program, there is this
    Windows Theme c:\windows \resources\themes\aero.theme.

I didn't think windows 7 Starter had this areo theme avail...?

Hmmm, I got it. I used a program called Stardock MyColors to
get Starter to load different images. Works pretty well. Now I can change to any image I want. The task bar is classic, but I can figure that out. Thanks for looking and the replies.

Whoops, spoke too soon. I had it, but after a restart it went back
to the Windows logo and won't load Stardock. Guess I'm stuck with
    the Windows logo. Oh well..

That virus may have done more damage than thought. You might see if running a sfc /scannow command, then see how the two programs run afterwards.

Otherwise, you might backup what you do not want to lose, and consider a factory recovery to reinstall Windows 7. Afterwards use Oceanis or Personalization Panel.

Yes, I should of run a sfc scan but didn't have time as it's a co workers unit.
There is no recovery partition for this unit, so I suppose that means recovery
discs from Acer. I don't know how much that would run, but when I ran a few
cleaning programs such as Malwarebytes which found a slew of infections and
then Combofix, they both deleted a number of infected files, so perhaps the
bug or bugs that were in it and with the removal of such, quite possibly did
    a serious number on it.

It runs great now, save for the Aero Theme. I may get it back for while pretty
soon and if so, then try and get things right.

Thanks for the replies and help.
