    I did this and booted into a black screen, with cursor, and an err msg saying "app (0x000007b) couldnt start). So i was forced to do system repair.

    Im using icofx to extract the icon from imageres, I store the extract in my documents. Then replace no 1 of shell32 with the extract using resource hacker, i do a save as, and then put it in sys32

    I see you are using 64-bit you will need to edit the shell32.dll in both
    C:\Windows\System32
    and
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64
    You are working with copies of the shell32.dll ?

    I have had trouble with resource hacker a few times. I have made some up using Restorator 2007 which has never failed me.

    If you get it to work you will probably need to do this afterwards Icon Cache - Rebuild

    ahh, i diud both dlls with rershack. I didnt use yurs cause I wanted to say I did it. =(
