Thanks...this does work but I also solved it just by going to windows standard and then loading my own background photo. Agree the MS stuff is too slick...

I know, it's an old thread but just in case anyone is still looking .....
Visual Effects > Use drop shadow etc. option works fine as long as you log off > log on after you make the change(s).
Hi Guys.. i know this is an old thread already.. but would like to help those that still has a problem with the shadows on the texts on dekstop icons.
Just go to "my computer" right click then go to "advance" then click settings under performance, then uncheck the box that says " enable desktop composition.. hope this helps with those that have windows 7 OS. God bless
