On another note, I noticed that the taskbar does not extend to the second monitor regardless of different monitor setup. Is there a way to make the taskbar appear on the extended monitor? Maybe another software for that?
DisplayFusion gives you a taskbar on all of your monitors and each taskbar is customizable. Reference my post on the previous page.

Are you set up for two desktops or one extended desktop? The desktop manager in the ATI catalyst or NVidia software determines the display settings there.

The image here shows how to enable/disable that option and also has the option for seeing a different wallpaper applied to each screen.

I could not find those settings. The extended desktop is greyed out. I am using a landscape and portrait monitors with Radeon 4770HD. Maybe its just the free version of display fusion. Or maybe I need rocketdock or ultramon or somehing similar

Here is my desktop. The left screen is 1024x1280 (in portrait) the right is the 1920x1080. The taskbar does appear slightly weird and the blank space below it is empty since there is no screen resolution there.

The two different resolutions are for obviously for two different makes and model lcds. Here I run a matched pair for the ease of extending one desktop that sees two separate wallpapers. That's where your problem is having two separate not one single extended desktop.

So it will not work for different displays then. Oh well. I just decided to recycle my old 19" monitor ended up with this setup

The smart taskbar option for either program only works when you extend the desktop over from the first primary display onto a second monitor. You can then opt for seeing a different background with either program as well for having a different wallpaper on each.

The limitation however is for the smart taskbar option since a clone display or totally second desktop will still only see the main taskbar along with Start menu. The video card's own application is where the option for selecting which will will be the primary display is also set there not with UltraMon or DF.

There you can have the second set as the primary and first monitor as the second in reverse while looking a bit odd when the smart taskbar is coming over from the left while the Start is over to the next screen at the right!

That can throw you off at first when going to update the video card's software for a newer version and suddenly all you see is a clone of the first on both monitors until the update is finished. Then you may have to go into the settings again to see the desktop extended.

And here's one advantage of having an extended desktop for things like a full view of any folder you want to go through. That could be the Windows directory or system32 folder where you have numberous files to look over. Or perhaps during media playback.

Those weren't actually wallpapers but one being a Windows Explorer window stretched across both display screens and a WMP 12 visualization running on playback of an audio track with WMP stretched out as well. The stretched out window and WMP however do have an interesting effect.

I was using the beta builds for UltraMon where the smartbar option was available for the second display. After going for both full versions I ended up back with UltraMon over DF.
