    Dual-Monitor wallpaper sizing issue

    Hi everyone,

I'm having a small problem in W7, and that is the two screens I am using have different resolutions & aspect ratios (1680x1050 and 1920x1080).
The problem is my second screen wallpaper stays the same size as my main monitor (1680x1050) instead of filling the entire area. I've tried all the different wallpaper options, Fill, Stretch, Centre, Tile etc, none seem to do anything.

I have seen DisplayFusion (DisplayFusion: Multi-Monitor Taskbar and Desktop Wallpaper*|*Binary Fortress Software), but if possible i'd like to fix this little problem without third party software.
Of course if there is no way I will try it out

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Cheers,

ps - here is a picture showing the problem in case you didn't get what I meant

Hello, Vis and welcome to the SevenForums.

I have basically the same display system as you. My fix was to choose a wallpaper that has the same resolution than my bigger screen, then choose (oddly enough) center.

If you use a wallpaper smaller than resolution on your bigger screen, I still have found no way to do it. Also stretch and fill seem not to work.

So: 1) wallpaper resolution must be the same or bigger than resolution on your bigger screen, and 2) choose center.

    Hope it works,

    Kari

You have made me a happy man Kari Thank you!

Definitely seems like a bug though, would you not agree?

Yeah, because it seems stretch and fill are not working on dualscreen setups if image is smaller than the bigger screen.

    Nice it works,

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just want to say that I'm having the same issue in reverse. My main display is larger than my secondary, and so are the wallpapers. The wallpapers are always stretched to the extent of the bigger display, and on the smaller display the same stretch extent is used, so the edges of the wallpaper on the smaller display are not shown.

    Wish MS would fix this...

Voidpointer, that is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

So if we try to find the logic behind this, it goes something like this:

In dual screen systems the shared wallpaper is sized and positioned according to the main display.

If main display has smaller resolution the wallpaper in extended display is stretched to fill the screen.

If main display has bigger resolution the wallpaper in extended display goes over the edges, is only partially shown.

This is because without third party applications the system can only use one image as a wallpaper and can only use the resolution of the main display.

    About right?

I wouldn't go as far as to presume the reasons why this is happening without diving into the Windows source code, but the symptoms as you explain it sound correct.

Are there third party applications that can cycle wallpapers randomly on both displays and still provide the nice fading effects that Windows 7 uses when transitioning between wallpapers?

DisplayFusion is nice and easy to use. Basic version is free, if you want to use all the options you have to pay $25.

Here you have a collection of beautiful dual screen wallpapers. 360 Desktop let's you use fabulous panoramas as dual screen wallpaper.

Open a Photo editor (ex. Photoshop, Photoimpact)

(if You have the monitor side by side then)
Make make a new photo with Width as big as you 2 Monitos 1680+1920= Width 3600
and Hight as big as the Bigest of the two Monitos = Hight 1080
    Set background color ...Black
    and save it ex. bgimage.jpg

Now open your Image ex.mybackground.jpg (in new window) and resize it to 1920x1080 and copy it to the New Image bgimage.jpg at to top Right of the image (or where your big monitor is)

Now resize your image ex. mybackground.jpg as your second 1680x1050 and copy it to the new image bgimage.jpg at baton right

Now save your bgimage.jpg and set it as background image. Now your picture is ok! both monitors are showing the same image correctly!!

If you want you can put another image at the second monitor by coping not the same image at second copy 1680x1050

if you have more than two monitors (or not side-by-side) you must make the new picture bgimage.jpg exacly as your monitor are!!!!

If you want to have the Windows 7 themes background at both monitors without crop you must change the original files from the original path <but first take make a copy from that folder>

OR you Can Download the Ultramon from www.ultramon.com and use only the Wallpaper tool and make your Multiscreen computer to have excacly the same background to all monitors without croping them!!!

yea I am having this problem also - I have a Pioneer Elite PRO-111FD as my second display and since it is a plasma I want to have full screen images at most times to avoid burn-in (dont start about burn-in and it not being a problem because I have seen it first hand on my screen and now it says HISTORY.COM with the HD logo in the corner of my TV permanently after only 6 hours of viewing spread out over 3 days of tv watching after a 250 hour break in process - so it happens and fast) and before with Vista this wasnt a problem, it would just fit the second display but now it is is a problem so I have had to get really big wallpapers and stretch them on my normal display

this sucks how do I fix this WTF Microsoft

I also noticed that if I swap the main display the desktop icons go with it and after I cahnge it back they stay there - if I disable the second display they come back but then if I turn the second display on again they go to the second display - WTF!
