Are the lines behind the text a motion blur layer? I think it would be better if it was symmetrical, just make a guide line at 50% horizontal, cut half of it out, duplicate the other half, flip it and move it. I wouldn't put any more visual effects on it, you don't want to take the focus away from the centre :) I really like the open space in it, I don't like complicated wallpapers, icons tend to get lost in the image if there's too much going on. And I also think the font is great :)
Ghastly thing?
@Influx, my opinion of course, I think a dark background would work better, such as metallic or black carbon, perhaps a hex grid.
For those that don't have the luxury of having a graphics package like PhotoShop or Corel. Here's a great bit of software that allows you to convert a conventional photo into a painting and it's free. FotoSketcher
It's really easy to use and requires no graphic knowledge and can produce some great results. You can turn some of your downloaded wallpapers into a painting in just a few clicks.
If your PC is a bit on the small side it might take a while to render especially if you are using a large image, but it's worth the wait .... enjoy
