Will I gain performance by disabling transparent glass?

I have disabled transparent glass because I really don't care for the effect at the moment. However, the color is silver-ish and that's not good

    1. Do I gain any performance benefits by disabling transparent glass?
    2. what other stuff should I disable if I am already heading down this road?
    3. can you change the Taskbar color?

No you won't gain any performance. The glass effect happens on the GPU, I doubt your card is straining.

Just enable Aero, then turn off transparency, while picking a color you like.
