shortcut icons are shown as black square in properties

I thought with myself that the reason might be the corruption of the icon cache file, so i run Microsoft troubleshooter and it fixed it. but now, after restarting windows i still have the previous problem and Microsoft troubleshooter didn't detect any problem.

    Try this too:
Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore

You could also try an SFC Scan

    Thanks for your replies.
One more thing that i think you should know is that shortcut icons are showing correctly, i mean if i change icon of a program's shortcut then it will be shown correctly but in the properties menu, the icon appears as a black square.
I tried several times to rebuild icon cache. after downloading bat file and opening it and restarting windows, shortcut icons in properties was shown correctly but after restarting again the problem still exist.

I would restore it though just incase. Also did you try the SFC Scan I mentioned?

Since this helped someone with a similar problem to you:

It's not just about the shortcuts that i changed their icons, it happens to all shortcuts.
I try sfc scan and it found some corrupt file and successfully repaired them. I'm going to restart now till see what will happen eventually.

    Your Welcome :)

I would also try this aswell though:

Default File Type Associations - Restore - Especially for the .exe

Replace your shell32.dll in C:/Windows/System32 with this:
    Attachment 198190

Man, I replaced shell32.dll after taking ownership of existing shell32.dll and renaming it to shell32.dll.org in system32 and restarted windows. At windows start up i received an error about explorer after clicking on the close button nothing was shown correctly, I couldn't even open task manager. The problem was in the normal safe mode too. So i just start safe mode in command prompt and rename shell32.dll to shell32.dll.orginal and shell32.dll.org to shell32.dll! What an adventures! :)
