    Error with transparent window/taskbar

    Hi.

After I restarted my computer today my taskbar changed from being see-through to a horrible sky blue colour.
I have done my research and outcomes that have made other peoples taskbar transparent have not worked for me, such as changing the theme of your computer to one of the Aero ones. Still my Taskbar reamins light blue.
When I go to Personalize>Window Color I get this:

    http://lh4.ggpht.com/_CSGl1PT-aYo/Sb...6vlTBaeQ/image

instead of the window with the color intensity and what not.

Also when I go to MyComputer>Advanced>Performance Setting it does not show transparent glass anymore.

Anyone know how to fix this?

    yes, i have tried those.
First Link does not work because there is no "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other Aero effects." There was one before though.

Second and Third Link did not help because "This troubleshooter does not apply to your system."

Try this: Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools. Top left go to 'Adjust Visual effects'. Set it to 'Adjust for best appearance' and make sure all the boxes are checked. You may have to toggle once between that and 'Let Windows Choose...'

Hi. I solved this problem using the advice of WHS who posted here. I had a slightly different experience doing it. I had to go: Control Panel/Review Your Computer's Status (under SYSTEM and SECURITY)/View Performance Information (bottom of right margin list)/Advanced Tools (bottom of right margin list)/Adjust Appearance and Performance of Windows (seventh option down) Here, I had to toggle the top three options as such: check "Custom" and all boxes checked - "Apply", then check "Adjust For Best Performance" all boxes checked - "Apply" (here it changed everything to the ugly, formal Windows 95/98 looking interface) and finally check "Adjust For Best Appearance" all boxes checked - "Apply" Now I have my normal "black" transparency back in my taskbar, start menu border and other border colors. I do not know why it would not change back without toggling in this combination, but I am just glad it worked. I am not certain, but I think issues with a dedicated GPU competing with Aero may be the issue. Special thanks to WHS, whose guidance led me to this fix.
