New Windows 7 Gadgets no longer available from Microsoft

Is there any way we can persuade Microsoft into restoring the Windows Live Gallery?
It looks as though Microsoft has already started abandoning Windows 7 users by restricting availability of new gadgets. What will they do next? I wonder.
Who else finds the following statement, by Microsoft, somewhat insincere?
"Because we want to focus on the exciting possibilities of the newest version of Windows, Microsoft no longer supports uploading new gadgets. But that doesn't mean you can't still get gadgets. The most popular and highest-rated gadgets are still available on this page."
A more straightforward way of putting this would be to say: "Microsoft has decided to make Windows 7 less attractive in order to encourage people to migrate to Windows 8."
But I think this sort of annoying behaviour merely creates a new benefit for other operating systems. Those for which there are thriving communities of people creating add-ons, gadgets etc.
