Impossible Customization Tasks
I've been using Windows 7 for many years now, and I've always been quite enthusiastic about it. That is, until recently, when I attempted to customize it. Come to find out trying to customize Windows 7 is like slamming your head against a goddamn wall.
There are three things I'd like to do. Unfortunately, all three things are absolutely impossible.
1. CHANGE THE DEFAULT START PAGE AS IT APPEARS WHEN YOU RIGHT CLICK THE START BUTTON > OPEN WINDOWS EXPLORER
There is no way to do this. Absolutely none. Editing shortcuts to Windows Explorer is trivial, but I've found no .ini tweak or registry setting to change the initial directory when accessed from the start button.
2. GET RID OF THE BIG WHITE RECTANGULAR BOX ON THE START MENU
Another impossible task. The only suggested solutions I found steered me toward some crappy Glass2k software, which was crap, and WindowBlinds, which was also crap. It would be really nice to change that white rectangle to a transparent gray! Unfortunately, it is beyond the capabilities of modern man.
3. ADD SHORTCUTS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE START MENU
SHORTCUTS. Not DIRECTORIES. To the RIGHT SIDE. Not to the LEFT SIDE. Sure, anyone can change the path on a crappy existing folder like Downloads or Videos to take you someplace else, but how does one add a shortcut to an executable file? The last post I found on this subject stated it would take a "code guru" to do it. Apparently, in all the years since Windows 7 came out, exactly zero code gurus have taken up the challenge. Therefore, I can only presume that it is impossible. It cannot be done.
This concludes my public service announcement on impossible tasks in Windows 7. Do not attempt to accomplish any of these tasks, for they are impossible. Of course, if anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful to hear them.
