It doesn't?

A neat feature I think would be to re-organize the programs menu by install date.

If start menu is set to show recent programs, then most used program will be on top of the list and so on...
If start menu is set to show shortcuts (pinned to start menu), shortcuts can be arranged by dragging...

I PMed the OP. I may have misunderstood his goal. I thought he meant the right hand side of the Start Menu.

I solved the problem. There is a program called "Vista Start Menu". Download and install it at www.vistastartmenu.com/index.html.

It is nearly the same as Vista's classic menu. You can drag and drop your programs in alphabetical order or as You wish.

If you're talking about the programs listed on the left hand side of the start menu, three is a way - but it is a tedious way.

Mind you, if you leave the show most recent programs *on* it will be a separate list underneath your pinned programs.

EDIT: Added the following:

Vista Start menu works for what you want - but for someone who does not want to use it, the above method I outlined works perfectly well.

Marking this solved.
