Delly, what exactly does Splinter "do". I'm not up to speed on custom stuff like this.
Hi, Brit, thanks for asking. So, in the "simplest" terms, Splinter is the ultimate hotlinker/file launcher.

It "opens" still images from three sets of variables. Pixel coordinate, image pixel size, and rotation value. Each splicon (just a regular, hotlinkable png file) can be "called" by its splicon ID (a number ) within the most simple internal scripting language (only six commands) so that the real-time opening of still images can be linked together into what are called splicon sequences, allowing for what appears to be pre-recorded frame by frame animation.

In fact, because they are still images, simply opening, in real-time, everything is always able to be edited, altered, added to, etc.

If you "realize"' that everything within "your" current desktop environment, all your desktop icons, and pretty much everything you click when on a pc, are "nothing" but hotlinks (an image icon linked to "whatever"), when you see that Splinter is able to hotlink the images to each other, you will begin to see that the utilitarian aspect of "hotlinking"(file launching) is all that is needed to make, almost literally, "anything" happen within the desktop realm.

I probably f'd up this rough explanation, I always do. Mmmm. I will get as in depth as you wish, but for now I will say that Splinter's "basic"/core functions are as such.

Triggers----initiate splicons....triggers can be any image and hotlink to anything, including other triggers and splicons. they have internal scripts that allow the linking of everything within a splinterface. Basically, think of these as "dock icons" that are not restricted by the dock, as the entire desktop is their dock. (they have more abilities, but for now this should do.

Splicons----these are the still png images that are initiated by triggers. These can also be any image and link to any other file , folder, app, image, weblink, etc. They "splanimte" (the act of opening them based on the three sets of variables).. Splicons can be "lumped" together in the splicon sequences, run in trigger scripts, to create "spli-stacks"...bascially stack docklets without any restrictions. They don't have to be a "stack". They can, as seen in the images, be a stack of relative icons in a configuration that blends seamlessly into the background wallpaper. In effect using the wallpaper as the framework for ways in which to stick similarly functioning icons into a "grouping" on the desktop that allows for all "social media" icons to be in a general location, and therefore easily accessible, however if you didnt know Splinter was running, you wouldn't be able to tell the splicons apart from the wallpaper..

Pages---these are what I call wallpapers in Splinter (due to the ability to hotlink the wallpapers as well, in the scripts, to allow them to become "pages" in a story if desired...

These are the three "facets" of Splinter. It is an insanely simple program, technically. It is just super advanced conceptually. All I did was take what has been around for the last 15 years, and link all of the desktop functionalities "together", and in doing so, creating a TON of new, never before seen abilities.

Hotlinking is GOD within the desktop realm. If everything can be hotlinked, NOTHING is impossible, within the borders of the monitor.

It is far more in depth, a lot of little new ways to look at things, but the above is the basics.

If my explanation sucks terribly for anyone, please tell me so, I wil lbe happy to do a better job.

I will say one thing, without any hesitation. Splinter is the most dominant, dynamic, and diverse desktop interface software, in history. And not a THING about it is "new", other than how it links the previously uncooperative functions together, opening doors that lead to a new "universe" , that of "spli-space".

I would say that the below video will explain the functionality of Splinter. It is just up to "you" to take the functionality in new directions and such...
