icon cache not rebuilding all icons

Okay I've been playing around icons from deviantart.com; by editing the folder icons in imageres.dll

So I managed to get the files modified then as I logged into windows I saw there were a scattered number of folders that still had the old icons. I right-clicked on the folder and checked the customize tab and at the bottom the default icon shows the new icon. I can't figure out why the icon still shows the old icon but the customize tab shows the new one.

    Then I checked out Brink's Rebuild_Icon_Cache.bat here:
    Icon Cache - Rebuild

After using the batch file some of the icons still wouldn't display correctly even though the customize tab in all of them shows the new icon.

I checked in appdata for the iconcache.db file and manually deleted and recreated it but it still didn't fix the rebuild problem. I even used a third party program like sysicon that has a refresh icon option but that didn't help either.

Has anyone run into this problem?

Can you post some screenshots of the ones that are not changing, and maybe post a screenshot of what the icon is supposed to be.
Use these tutorials for posting screenshots.

Can you post the imageres.dll so I can look at it, it may be too big to post here, go to a filesharing site and upload it there and post a link here.

You see the blue icon on the right that's the modified one that I want to use but the ones on the left are still default for some reason.

Here's the strange thing about the customize tab:

You see that the customize tab displays the new blue icon but as you can clearly see from the previous screenshot the green ones are displayed.

Now its like I said these green folders are scattered here and there but I can't figure out why.

I just found a fix; if I click on Change Icon then I can select "RESTORE DEFAULTS", this will switch to the new blue icon but this means I have to change this for each folder individually! So I am still looking for a fix.

Well I couldn't figure it out so I just used the "Restore Defaults" option in the Customize tab for each folder that was not displaying correctly. I realized that only a hand full of them were displaying the old icon so luckily this fixed my problem any new folders that get created use the new icon. If anyone found way of globally restoring defaults without selecting the customize tab of each one separately let me know!

Related issue: seems I set a customized icon for a top level folder with the change subfolders inadvertently checked. All subfolders got this custom icon. To get back to defaults on the subfolders, it was necessary to change each one individually, I could not reset at the top folder level and have this propagate to the subfolders the way the original change was made.
