How do I change a file type icon?

I want to change the default icon of .7z, 7-Zip, files but I have forgotten how. I have done it before with Tune Up Styler but the .7z option is not there.
I want to use this icon.

Gary I think it is icon #2 in imageres.dll.
What does it look like now?

The icon is #1 icon in the 7zFM.exe in your program folder.

The background is icon #2 in imageres.dll.

    Hello Gary,

If you're wanting to change the icon itself for file extensions, then this may work for you. :)

Well apparently I'm a dumb ass because I can't see icons in the .exe file, it opens 7-Zip and the Fileman program has no option for changing icons.

Do I need Resource Hacker or something like that?
Trying the regedit way, the 7-Zip has no DefaultIcon entry.

I found it here. You might see if that may work better you instead. I have 7-Zip 9.30 alpha installed.

Thanks Shawn, I don't have that key either, maybe it's different in version 9.30, I have 9.20 and w7. Your snip looks like Win 8?
I used Reshack and changed the icon in the 7zFM.exe file and it works as I wanted...almost. I would like it to have the icon only and not the background image.

I think it's just different in 9.30, since it's the same in W7 and W8 for that registry entry.

You could probably change the background icon #2 in imageres.dll to a transparent icon to get rid of the white file background.

Good idea, never thought about it, lol. I just thought it would then change system wide though.
