Hide/Unhide Start toolbar & Desktop icons

Alright, here's what I got going on:

I want to be able to have a completely clear desktop, void of icons and start toolbar with a hot key. However, I would like to be able have access to the start toolbar and able to have desktop icons available to me. This is where the hot key would come into play: the ability to hide/unhide both sets (icons and toolbar) simultaneously. Does anyone know of a program or registry hack that would accomplish this?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum, linkbowser12,

There is no way to do what you want by simply editing the registry; however, I may very well be able to make a program that shows or hides desktop icons with a single hotkey. As for the "start toolbar" you speak of, I have never heard of it. Can you post a screenshot?

He meant the right click on taskbar->toolbars menu. They always show icons...
    I opened a related question on superuser.com:

Seems a bit of a niche problem. I wonder if a registry change can fix it or if it requires a more drastic solution.
