Its a incomplete one but wanna make sure whether is this is the effect u r craving for.
Not quite what I'm looking for... Lol. Let me see if I can explain this a bit better, it's a bit tricky.

Using an example would work better, in the attached image, I've added two text blocks and set nothing more than 'Bevel and Emboss' layer style with a 140 degree angle. However, the top one is set to 'Up' while the lower is set to 'Down' in the layer style properties (second attachment).

On a simple background such as this brushed steel plate, it's dead easy to do... That's no problem. I'm having difficulty with blending this in with a background that has both dark and light coluors. As you'll see in the PSD I gave you, I do have quite a few layers to get the effect I have currently. I was simply trying to get a very light shape of the text itself to give the 'indentation' a slightly more solid shape. But I couldn't get it quite right...

I hope that makes sense, it's a bit tricky to try put my thoughts into words sometimes. Lol.
Its not tricky but watever u r lukin for will not be attained with the kind of background you are having. Tried the same with your original font but tht doesnt showcase the effect very much.

This is the reason, you can find I have made the effect and moved to a solid and light background to make it effective.

Tried another method too with text mask layer, tht also will be effective when put on a solid background.

The one I have done now is with alpha channel.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying.. I was referring to the whole blending process that's tricky. However, you have just given me an idea I didn't think of before...

I can use the Alpha layer to make certain elements partially visible while using any other layer style simultaneous. I have done it before for a slightly different type of image, but I'm sure with some time, patience, and many visits to the History panel; I'm pretty sure I should be able to get closer to the desired effect.

See, this is how I learn things, I try it and see what happens. Thanks for trying though, very much appreciated.

Edit: Does anyone know why my avatar downgraded in quality? It was much higher on Photobucket and My Computer. I uploaded it and... Well I think its still a good avatar.

The one on your avatar right now is a jpg file. That is why it is low in quality. The one that dom just made is a png file and it exceeds the forum limit of the avatar's size. Recommended file size for an avatar should be 48.8 KB (whichever is smaller).
The reason it's so big is because I made it 16-bit RGB, just turned it down to 8-bit RGB.

RJ12 should use the image posted above for his avatar. Still good quality, only it is 25kb.
Thanks!! I will keep both, the high quality one for personal use, and the lower one for forums! Thanks alot!

Hmm that looks good, but i mostly like the SG9 style, any chance of getting that? Will use that as a replacement to the current text layer (SG9)
