I keep the left side of my start menu empty and have just three items on the right, My Computer, Control Panels, and Help and Support, and my desktop is empty. . . I'm a bit of neat freak lol. . .

You wouldn't like this then. It is very handy, two clicks to open my most used programs.

First, sorry about not posting on how to do the registry change

Second, for anyone who wants to see what it looks like here is a screen shot

Last, thank you OP for the question as it gave me the idea to add that function to the right click menu on the Network icon

Just a thought, how do you start programs with an empty start Menu and with no shortcuts on the desktop? Going into the Programs files and finding its .exe seems a lot of trouble.

Was thinking the very same thing mate I just don't see why I like my stuff on the taskbar (which I keep hidden) to be honest and now I have "Bins" it's even better:)

I guess what would be ideal for Z would be a voice actuated system but that sounds (no pun) quite an expensive exercise.

I guess I should have said, I have recent items turned off, and no items pinned in the start menu so when I first click on the Win7 icon, it appears empty. Then I simply type the name of the app I want, and the list appears.

Gee for someone who is minimalist minded you take the long way around when you could do it with 2 clicks.

Do you mean you have to type in at Start the stuff you want?? cos that sounds a bit time consuming to me unless I have misunderstood what you have just posted.

Sorry G I was cross posting OP could even use one click if he changes that in the the Folder options.

I've never used this, but it might be the answer you want. I try to keep my system "native" (no third party mods).
