WARNING... Virus in Win 7 Gadgets

I was looking for some Windows & gadgets and came across thoosie.com last night. I downloaded and installed a network gadget and found that it installed a browser toolbar without my permission. THis thing highjacked my default search engine for chrome (google.com) and replaced it with Delta Search. When opening a new tab, there was a popup that when Xed out brought up a webpage to clean your PC. This is a VIRUS. It took me an hour to get rid of it. MY advice is not to download gadgets from thoosie.com. Althught the virus may have come from the developer of the gadget. So, be safe, get gadgets from someplace else.

I always scan any downloads before proceeding with Malwarebytes and it did indeed show it to be dangerous.

In the future, scan (with whatever program you use) and save yourself a headache.

PSCO2007 made a good point. Always best to save somewhere first, scan, THEN install! Thanks for the heads up about that site though. I'm sure it will help someone.

yup, have read it, unfortunately i think many things are flawed, and exploitable, MS ditched these pretty quick with little explanation other than "oh they can be compromised"

Once Windows 8 came along you could see there was little intention of ever using them in that platform, and i see it as an easy out.

Most MS products have fatal flaws in them, and are constantly being patched, so the way i see it if it's not one thing it's another, and yes, installing anything has an inherent risk, especially if you pay little or no attention to where the files are coming from.
