The problem i have with this is that those pictures that you are removing, do they not work for you in either the gadget slideshow or in any other slideshow or do they work in paint for that matter? If the answer is yes, then i dont think this is the true "answer" for the "real problem". This is, if it works for you, a fix of sorts, but not a resolution.

Are these any particular pics, the "bad" ones? Anything you can pick out? jpg/bmp? size? ect? Characters, # of and what type of?
They show up in everything except for the background slideshow. There is nothing special about the file names. I already tried editing the pictures and saving them as NEW jpg images in paint, and the slideshow still refused to show those pictures. The resolutions vary, the thumbnails show up fine, there is nothing special about these pictures that I can see.

Well, global, I was able to reproduce our problem under different circumstances. This time was using a folder with backgrounds that i havent had any problems AT ALL, a very common folder i have been using. since it has not had this problem... till now.

Basically it boiled down to this... (Although i believe this situation has triggered this before, it was the suspect folder with lots and lots of backgrounds that i was using back then. This was a different folder). For FYI, all pics had no "weird" characters, or long filenames ect . "Fill" picture option, and timer at 3 min.

This happened when i had loaded 9 different IE windows, along with a torrent... bringing my mem usage up around 67%. This TIME, I hit flip3D to scroll thru webpages.... upon choosing one, that page popped up fine but with a black background, no pic, as desktop. Now, mind you, with Flip3D the background pic will show up clearly, and as an option to click of course, but when clicking the "background", it then shows up ( or doesnt actually) as... black.

Clicked every IE window to bring it up seperate, and everytime, background was black. Now while typing this, clicking flip3d now shows background window to choosen as black.

This slideshow is only shuffling thru about 10 pics, of which this hasnt happened for some days. Never has happened with this "setup" that i have now. My guesstimation of how long slideshow has been running would be about a day and a half (sys uptime). The picture in question has displayed numerous amount of times without any problems before.

So like i stated a few replies back.... I am thinking this has to do with somekind of buffer being overrun, saving mem for the system instead of displaying the background. IT turns "black" because that is the default background color fill of the desktop. This happened alot in win 98 days and actually XP if system was up for awhile and was in use of heavy applications. Ultimately having to reboot the system.

[edit] wanted to add that this happened on XP and win 98 with the toggle of "show desktop" was used... sometimes just the once, sometimes after a few times of toggling.

and when this DOES happen, i wonder why when going to personalize/background that the pic "in question" is then/now the only pic selected with check for the slideshow and shuffling. wondering why does it deselect the other files that i had setup initially to slide.

another note to add global to confuse you.... before this pic vanished, i had seen it prior to that, like 30 secs after it came up to desktop. I forget what i was doing... I think i had just one page on forefront of desktop with rest minimized, and after i closed out the one in the foreground I went to another app. Then i believe right after that i hit flip3d to see what IE webpage i was looking for next, and blam... this was where i was left at.

so i had seen this pic load prior to the desktop "losing" it, not but maybe 1 min later.

Because that is the last picture that worked. The one next in line (I believe its arranged alphabetically, I haven't found a way to arrange it in any other order) is the one that caused the slideshow to stop. That is what I found when diagnosing and troubleshooting. It was ALWAYS the next picture in line.

Of course it could always be a hardware/resources problem.

My desktop slideshow has been working fine ever since I removed the 4 or so pictures from my collection that it didn't like. It has gone through the more than 1000 pictures several times on both my computers. I have since changed the 10 seconds to 30 seconds so I can spend more time enjoying the pictures :).

BOTH Windows 7 x64 installations would stop and reject the exact same pictures, there was no randomness to my problem whatsoever.

By flip3d do you mean the "Switch between windows" that you can enter by pressing Windows+Tab? I will try that next time I have a ton of windows open but I don't think my memory usage will be nearly as high. I'll post back if anything happens/changes but I haven't noticed anything the last couple days and haven't had a black background either.

Could this issue be to do with where the images are stored?

I have used the slideshow ever since i installed the beta and cant think of any problems i have experienced. I put all the pictures that i wanted in the slideshow in the default wallpaper folder (C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper)

Just a thought but maybe if anyone is still having these problems it may be worth putting their images in this folder to see if it does have anything to do with it.

Note: I have used a variety of different images mixed with default windows ones and have used different times (mainly 1 min) and shuffle with no problems at all.

    Hope this helps :)

    Regards

To answer your question, Nope. It doesnt matter where the folder is. I have pointed the slideshow to folders on different drives. Even tried same folder on seperate drives. Thanks for the feedback/input tho.
