    File Views Are Not Consistent

    Hello,

I find myself in an interesting situation where a user of mine is insisting everything they open up be in the list view. In the past I have corrected this by going to folder options and after configuring the desired view and applied folder settings to all folders. Certain open or save dialogs appear to still open in the details view inconsistently. Am I missing something? Is there way to force all explorer, open, save, etc windows to show files in a particular view?

Any help or insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to mention the important info on the system the user has! It is a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 machine.

In Windows 7, each Library has its own View settings that are completely independent from the View settings of the actual folders. So looking at a folder through the Libraries will be seen through that Library's View setting, and then looking at that same folder directly (not through the Libraries) will show it through that folder's View setting.

So I'm saying that this might be what's happening.

For example: I have a folder that I manually included in my Pictures library. The folder itself has the Large icons view, and the Pictures Library has the Extra Large Icons view. So I get the Large view when looking directly at the folder, and then I get the Extra Large view when I'm looking at it through the Pictures library.

Interesting... I think your right on the money with this one! Dug a bit deeper on your suggestion, and it does indeed specify that Library folders are not effected by a folder settings change from folder options and that they are controlled by the library setting (each must be set manually). I will hit up that user tomorrow and see if this works. Thanks! I will be sure to follow up and let you know if this works.

Cool. I hope we're both right and that it's not some weird problem!
