    Screensaver not kicking on

my screensaver has worked in the past. at some point i noticed it was no longer working, so i messed around a bit. i think all i did was change the time to something different, and it came back to life for another day or so. it has stopped again, and all of my old tricks are no longer working. i'm pretty sure i have all the power settings correct, and i've been using the screensaver window for years, so those are correct too. i've read about wireless keyboards and mice being a problem, but both of mine are wired.

    please and thank you,
    kyle

See if you have any programs running that have "disable screen saver" as a setting or option. Post a screenshot of your task manager showing all processes from all users. Someone may know something about one of the .exe or which to check.

ok. i've pinpointed the problem, but i don't yet have a solution. i rebooted, and i didn't start anything manually. the screensaver kicked on. i started a program called stream_on. screensaver kicked on. i started an audio stream inside the program, and found the problem. when the stream is running, the screensaver isn't kicking on. howare stern is keeping my screensaver off. lol. this didn't happen in vista, but it's happening here in se7en. someone mentioned to disable the "allow this device to wake the computer" setting in my network adapter. i tried that, but nothing happened. i looked through the stream_on settings, but there is nothing there let alone something about a screensaver being disabled. i would guess it has something to do with the network... not sure.

    any ideas?

    please and thanks.

here's a little twist. instead of using stream_on, i went directly to sirius' website. i started the stream and went to have a smoke. the screensaver time is on one minute, and wasn't on when i came back, so it seems that any stream is giving me problems.

and now, to add to the confusion. sometimes when the stream is stopped, and the screensaver comes up, it starts again but doesn't kill the screensaver.

I don't use screensavers but perhaps someone that does could add to this post. I believe there may (or may not lol, sorry then) be a setting within power management, depending on which profile you're running, that disables screensavers when multimedia is present or running.

    Worth a look.

I've just started with Windows 7 and the screen saver does not work. The activate screen is there ok. I select My Pictures and the directory and I see My Pictures appear and change in the little TV screen. I press apply. However, when the 10 minutes of inactivity takes place the screen just turns black. A good enough screen saver some may say, but not my selection or choice.

Set the screenscaver to start after 5 minutes (or 1 minute).

If it works, then turn off the option for the screens to turn off, in power options.

Well, that's astonishing. You are correct! It has worked. I say astonishing, not because you are correct, but because one would have thought that on set up, a smaller value would have been put in for the screen saver as the initial setting than the value for the power screen turn off by Microsoft. I did a custom installation with not previous settings tansferred.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
